Extras you may not have thought about.
So maybe you got the whole “pro” kit or whatever including the extra battery to strap to the back of your head. I get it, it’s probably a good idea in a lot of ways. Personally I wasn’t going to spend the extra on that one component because it’s such a uni-tasker. I don’t like technical uni-taskers. Sort of like the cable & power supply that comes with the rift. Good for at home but primarily and especially for mobile use, meh.
I’ve no shortage of these great cables around with a macnetic tip. They rotate and like a “magsafe” connection they’ll rip right off without causing damage. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08F7586NK/

Sadly they don’t do data but I’ve got SideQuest which works over WiFi and Shadow PC’s “Shadow VR” client for playing PC / Steam games. Again no cable required. Among this specific pack of cables there’s one on an L shape a 6 footer too. If you want to tuck the Quest into it’s case and let it charge, this even fits and it’s not sticking right out the side when you’re using it connected.
The other thing is portable battery power. Shouldn’t everyone have a few options here? Not only are they nice on the road but with the Quest if you can tuck it into a pocket, much better than a wall socket for when you can’t wait to get a full charge. Mine are good but out of production (Ravpower batteries seemed to have lasted longer than they did? I don’t see them on amazon anymore. But I think when the time comes I’ll upgrade to one of these. https://www.amazon.com/Anker-PowerCore-Portable-Delivery-A1291/dp/B089D4176K/

I won’t get boring with lists of technical details and spreadsheets full of numbers. They’re slight overkill. But that’s what makes them great unitaskers. Kind of like one of my less portable favorites: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07L9W45MY/ I see there is a $15 off coupon for it as I’m writing this. I’m starting to think I should have set up to use Amazon affiliate links! I don’t though. Nothing here makes any money for me.

Then there’s also a software side. For this one I’ll use a referral code: IndustrialDJ. 😉
If you haven’t heard of a Shadow PC, then you should probably check out Shadow.Tech they’ve recently finished dual screen functionality that seems to work pretty well and they’re still working on Shadow VR. As of now, you can use beta or alpha clients. I’m using Alpha. It’s a thing of beauty. Though a little more technical for now. Basically boot your shadow and with the Shadow VR client sideloaded from SideQuest, connect & play. You get full use of a windows PC and the Quest gets the lowest latency of probably any device on my network via Asus gaming router. It’s nuts. I can’t wait until Shadow’s additional storage performance issue is resolved and the Quest client makes it to the full store and is fully functional as official releases. It opens everything up.
